Stop Motion Reflection

When we had to draw the idea for our stop motion I just started to imagine random ideas. I've always liked peace signs, so I made one with my hand, then since I love surfing so much I thought about a wave and if it was possible to transform my hand into a wave. I kind of moved my hand slowly into the shape of a wave. I then realized it looked perfect, so I drew it on the little paper. Some classes after that we had to draw it in a big paper. This took me a while because I always like to draw super detailed. When I finally finished, we had to choose a medium to do the stop motion with. I chose plasticine because I wanted to challange myself and I knew I could make a really cool hand. Besides, drawing fifty hands would've taken me a very long time.
I started doing my plasticine hand and finished it perfectly. Nothing changed in the begging, the hand rotated a bunch and suddenly started to change into a wave. When that was done and the wave was complete, I thought it would be fun to add a surfer since it would be cool and would give me a chance to take more pictures. I made a surfer paddle in and surf that wave until he whipped out and the wave passed. When I thought it was the end, I realized I still didn't have enough images. I decided a good way to finish off is by adding a dolphin that jumps out of the water and back in. So, I ended up adding the surfer and the dolphin.
As I was working with the plasticine I came to a point where it was hard to get a good blue color for the sky and the water. I chose to do the water by blending the plasticine color that I also used for the wave. They sky was just blue paper. I had the most fun doing this project. I now know what to do in summer when I'm bored. If I could change something, it would only be the little wrong details like misplacing of the camera or crooked fingers. Other than that, I love my stop motion!

Medium Selection

For my stop motion video I chose to do it out of plasticine. I chose this medium because it's the one that will work the best. My other option was drawing it but it would take way to much time to draw a hand a billion times. I also considered lego, but that just won't work for a hand. The hardest thing I thing will be to make the details of the hand. They shape is hard, but not so much. Doing the hand lines and wrinkles. I think plasticine will work perfectly. It will just require a lot of skill and patience.

Stop Motion

Stop motion is many pictures of objects in different positions then putting the puctures together to make a movie. That's exactly how cartoons are made. It makes the film look step by step. People make videos this way because it's a challenge and you need a lot of talent. They might also do them because it's a type of art, and a very cool art! To do something like this you first have to know what your going to do. Then you have to get all the things you need to make this. Finally you need to work hard and be patient to take a picture of each and every move you make. This was my favorite video of them all.

William Kentridge

Kentridge's work and art makes me feel... I can't explain it. It's as if I was looking at an old movie in which something scary is happening.Or like he is drawing about the bad things and defects of humans. I'm not really sure, it's very abstract. It is hard to understand what is happening. It's like he's trying to send a message. To a blind person I would say: "He draws an object, takes a picture, and then erases it, then he draws the next position of that object and takes another picture."
First he tries to find what he wants to make in his mind. He imagines what he will be doing. After that, he gets all of his materials needed ready. Next, he starts drawing: He draws his first image and work it to make it look as he wants. Then, he takes a picture of it. And so on until he finishes it. When he's done he sees if he likes it. If he does he makes a final drawing of it, perfectly neat.

Mash-Ups

A mash-up is when more than one artist or band's music is used to make a mix of those songs. Here is a pretty awesome mash up of my favorite artist and a cool raper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACRLPcvNpGE. Here is another very nice one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgEewhOprG8. I think that a good mash up would be two songs that have completely different genres or styles mixed with the same tempo and that sounds good. I think that mash ups take half musician and half not. I don't consider them true musicians because they aren't making the music, but it takes some musical talent to find somgs that fit together and making them sound good together also.

Future Artifact

My artifact from the future took me a very long time to do. First, I took a screen shot of slingshot's web page and set it as background. Then, I looked for a picture of aluminum in Google and paste it on top. After that I made a outline of the wakeboard and copied that shape from the aluminum image. After that, I copied the aluminum outline on top of the wake. This is when I started to add detales. I added the word "aluminum" to the wake's name and changes 2011 to 2014. I also added a "buy" clicker. Everything looked good, but the board needed a design and I had to add a second tutorial. So, I made an outlne of some other wakeboard designs and drawings and pasted them on the board. They had a white border around them, so I used the "tattoo" tutorial to eliminate the white things. All Done... I liked it a lot because an aluminum wakeboard would be very durable and strong, but it would still be very light. I didn't like the quality of the picture, it was a little blurry, but I did the best I could. I think I would change the following: I would make the screen shot be on a laptop's screen. That way it would look like it's already happening on the real life.

Julian's Future Artifact:
I liked this project because it is very creative and looks like a hard working project.

Artifact From the Future

My artifact from the future will be a floating chrome plated surf board. I chose this because I wanted to do something about surfing and it has to be from the future: a chrome surf board that is able to float sounds from the future. I will probably make the reflect of the board as a dude flashing a peace sign. My final project will The Surfer Magazine with a picture on front of a chrome surf board. It will have a big wave behind it and a "new" sign too. I think this is going to be challenging. At the end it's going to have been worth it anyway.

Family Tree

What you see in the left is my wonderful family tree. Some of my family member's faces aren't there because I could not find any, in the computer or real... One time, all of the people you see and my family went to Cuernavaca for Christmas. My family stayed with my mother's side grandparents. It was so cool! We were all so happy and joyful!

Map Testing... Again

Once again, we had Map Testing last week. This time I didn't get good scores... Well, I did, but we were suppose to beat 2 of our 3 high scores in order to get a spirit day. The 3 of my scores were lower by 3 points. I didn't think any of them were hard. My grade wasn't bad, but I could have done better. The Map Testing we had on October were hard while I did them, but my grades were better. I hope next year I do better and get a spirit day.

PowerPoint Presentations

Over the years, before coming to high school, we had to make book talks on PowerPoint every year. I remember that we were all nervous before presenting, but I also remember that we were very lame. We all talked funny and no one could understand us. Our teacher pretended to and gave us a good grade but I could see on her face that she was so bored. I remember watching some students do a very bad job, like misspelling every single word, saying ''Um...'' in between each word, inserting dumb pictures that din´t even make sense and were so blurry that you couldn't see them! Now that we're in high school we have become much better. We talk clearly and don't get nervous. I feel like after each presentation I make, I become better than last time.

Peer Evaluations

When I did the evaluations yesterday I learned to look at more of a video than just the sight and music. I learned to really pay attention to it and look at the good and bad things of it. On my video, I would take off the last names and give credit to the person who made the song and to the Google images. I think that's all the bad things on it. On the two videos that I graded I did see some bad details. The eight grade video was good except for the clearness in taking of one of the students and on the twelve grade the images were all taken from the internet and completely random in order to the song, but other than those things the videos were pretty cool. This was an interesting assignment.

7

If the electricity would shut down in my house I would:

-Use a flash light for any problems I have.
-Turn on candles and put them all over the house.
-Use battery lanterns.
-I can't watch TV so I would use my laptop.
-Draw.
-Listen to music.
-Call friends and make a small party.
-Play my acoustic guitar.
-Create a song.
-Do some homework...
-Go to a friends house.
-Sleep

I would use a flash light to find thing I need. Like the candles. Or the lighter to light candles. I would use battery lanterns because I can't connect them to power. They would work the same way. Since my computer needs power too I would just use my laptop. I can use internet.

I can listen to music. I can do anything I can do on a normal day with it. I would maybe draw. I would get really into it because I would be very bored. I can call some friends. They can come to my house and talk. I could also go to someone else's house.

I could maybe play my acoustic guitar and have fun. I can invent a cool song about what I'm going through. If I'm very bored and have nothing else to do, I would do some homework. I would also sleep if I'm tired. Since it's late or night, I can't go to the beach or skate. I would go kitesurf or somewhere if it was during the day. I have many things I can do when the power goes away at night though.

Sixth Sence

I can only start with... AMAZING!!! This guy is incredibly brilliant and just wonderful. I specially liked the way he thinks about technology and the reason he made that project for. He said he hates that people these days are always sitting on a chair doing things on their computers. They're just getting fat... He made it so that people can use that same technology but with everyday objects. That way you can be doing what you do everyday. I like his way of thinking very much.
Like I said before, being able to do anything you want and still use technology is the best thing about it for me. This can lead to something great in the future. I also liked that it looks just impossible and fake, almost like magic, and taking pictures of a building with just moving your fingers can look unnatural for some people, but when you understand what he's really doing, and that is giving a signal to a camera with his fingers and sending it to a computer using blue-tooth then projecting it in a piece of paper, you realize that it is very much possible. The bad thins about this is that you would have to wear a helmet or a heavy deckles and things on your fingertips all day. Nobody would like that. Maybe this can be fixed after working on it though. It has good things and bad things. Although, it can all be fixed.
Open Source is what he said this project will be. It means it will be available for anybody that pays for it. You will be able to buy it as another computer in shops. It is great that he will sell this because he will earn lots of money and help many fat or ignorant people "look outside the box" and do everything they did in a very creative and social way. However, it can also be bad. Maybe after a few years everybody will use this. After time everybody will start depending on technology and new thing will be discovered. We will convert into lazy people like the ones in the movie Wallie...

What I Did Over Winter Vacation

Over my winter break I did many fun things. First, I drove up to Guadalajara with my family. We stayed there for like two days and then took a flight to Mexico City. I left my skateboard on a taxi cab and lost it :(. I had Christmas there with my mom side family. I got a MacBook! I also got lots of cool little things from family like cloth and a swatch watch. After that, we went to Cuernavaca by car and stayed there for about a week with my grandparents and cousins. My computer kind of wouldn't turn on after a few days that I uses it.

I came back to Puerto Vallarta and the next day there was a huge New Years party at my own house. There was over 70 people there and all my friends too. Julian and Mateo were there too. The long night finished at about 3 am. and Mateo and I went to bed at about 5 am. Next morning we left at 12 am. on Mateo's boat and cached up with Julian's boat and used the water skiing tube on the way to a restaurant in La Cruz... I had a few more days to rest and then I heard that it was the last weekend before school started. So that was my winter break. It was fun while it happened.

If I could change anything of my winter break it would be 3 thing. One, I would've loved to not loose my brand new $100 skateboard. Two, I would had appreciated that my laptop could still be working today and not wait to go fix it, even if it's for free. Three, I would have liked so much to not have my skate ramp run over with a car and broken! Someone crashed with my ramp... Besides that everything was awesome. I loved my winter break. I'm glad I'm back in school but sad at the same time.
